Tue, 24 Jul 2007 03:08:16 GMT | New York Times

The deal would combine Europe?s two smaller, high-growth rivals against the dominant players in the navigation device and mapping markets. TomTom, based in Amsterdam, relies on the data that Tele Atlas gathers to present the maps for its displays. Tele Atlas, based in Den Bosch, the Netherlands, has been increasing sales quickly but was unprofitable until recently, and relies on TomTom for about a third of its revenue.
