OROMOCTO, N.B. (CP) - A memorial service to honour eight Canadian soldiers killed this month while serving in Afghanistan will be held today at the Canadian Forces Base Gagetown in New Brunswick.

CALGARY (CP) - Canadian Oil Sands Trust (TSX:COS.UN), the biggest partner in the Syncrude oilsands project in northern Alberta, raised its distributions to investors by a third Wednesday as the company reported its net profits nearly tripled to $262 million.

The Loblaw Companies, a supermarket chain, reported a decline in first-quarter profit, hurt by restructuring charges. Loblaw said it earned 54 million Canadian dollars ($48 million), down from 140 million Canadian dollars a year earlier. Loblaw said it took a charge of 75 million Canadian dollars for restructuring costs in the first quarter and a charge of 14 million Canadian dollars related to the closing of stores in the Quebec and Atlantic markets. Sales in the quarter gained 3.3 percent, to 6.347 billion Canadian dollars. Sales at stores open at least a year rose 2.4 percent.
