Productivity Jumps As Labor Costs Dive

Productivity, the amount of output per hour of work, rose at an annual rate of 6.4 percent in the April-June quarter, the largest amount in nearly six years. Unit labor costs dropped 5.8 percent, the fastest pace in nine years. Meanwhile, businesses slashed inventories at the wholesale level for a record 10th consecutive month in June.
